Beans & Rice Event at the WLfJ Building

Looking for an event where you can make an impact serving your community, and involve your whole family? Bring your family or small group to the With Love From Jesus Raleigh location and help us stock our food shelves by bagging beans and rice!  It is easy and fun and it really blesses our honored guests.  Small groups, youth groups, co-workers and families all have fun doing this together.  We will be having door prizes and tours for anyone who has not served before.  This is a great way to introduce your friends to WLFJ! 

It is easy!

  1. Sign up below so we can set up for your team and buy resources if needed.
  2. You can bring your own beans and/or rice, measuring cups, Ziplock bags for your team OR we can bulk purchase the materials for you. The average cost for a family of 4 to participate is $45 ($25 if you only bag rice). Or if you would prefer to come and encourage others while they bag, that is okay too. It’s a great way to learn more about the ministry either way.
  3. Come to our Raleigh location at 421 Chapanoke Road in Raleigh.

If you bring your own materials, here’s suggested supplies:

  • 50 – 75lbs of rice or pinto beans (25 lb bags work best)
  • 16 oz heavy plastic disposable drinking cups or 2 cup measuring cups (1 cup for every 2-3 people)
  • 1 quart Ziplock bags (1 bag needed for every pound of rice or beans)
  • Scripture verses to put in each bag. (optional)

If all of the above are purchased at a bulk discount store such as Sam’s or BJ’s, it will cost $25 per person for rice and $55 per person for beans. 

Have Your Own Beans & Rice Event!

Another great way to serve is to host your own beans & rice bagging event with your youth group, community/life group, or your office.  It is easy and fun and it really blesses our honored guests.  

Supplies for a one hour bagging session (adjust for your length of time and size of group):

  • 50 – 75lbs of rice or pinto beans (25 lb bags work best)
  • 16 oz heavy plastic disposable drinking cups or 2 cup measuring cups (1 cup for every 2-3 people)
  • 1 quart Ziplock bags (1 bag needed for every pound of rice or beans)
  • Scripture verses to put in each bag. (optional)
  • If all of the above are purchased at a bulk discount store such as Sam’s or BJ’s, it will cost $35 per person for rice and $60 per person for beans. 

Bagging instructions (As long as you get 2 cups of beans or rice in a sealed bag with no air in the bag, you can do this however works best for you.  This is what has worked best for us so we are passing it along):

Teams of 3-4 work best, with multiple teams working if you have a bigger group.

  1. One person holds a Ziplock bag open
  2. Second person measures out 2 cups of beans or rice and places it in the bag
  3. Third person places the scripture in the bag, pushes the air out of the bag and seals it. 
  4. Fourth person places the bags in the container that you will be bring the finished bags to WLFJ in.  Box rice separately from beans. This person can also be the runner to resupply rice and beans and to open the bags and take away trash.

Bring your finished bags to WLFJ during our receiving hours in Raleigh Monday through Saturday 9am – 2PM or in Johnston County Sunday 4:30pm – 7pm or Thursday 9am to 11:30am.
